In addition to the research vessel RV Discovery, UMT also has 2 F36 yachts for the use of learning & teaching (PnP) sailing science as well as the development of young talent in the state of Terengganu through Sailing Training Center. This is also in line with UMT's thrust field which is marine science and aquatic resources. Through the program conducted, many new talents have been unearthed and highlighted through participation in tournaments such as Terengganu Monsoon Challenge and Langkawi International Regatta.
Furthermore, UMT through Faculty of Marine Engineering Technology and Informatics – FTKKI UMT also offers ship-related programs namely Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering Technology (Ship Architecture) and Bachelor of Applied Science (Maritime Technology). This degree program emphasizes the design and manufacturing technology aspects of ships and boats which combine elements of art, science and mechanical engineering.
