May 15, 2023 l UMT LAUNCHES NEW TRAINING CENTER, POLISHING FIELD OF NATIONAL SAILING TALENT. In order to meet the challenge and always be optimistic in planning the direction of the building of knowledge that becomes a center for experts to refer to the community, UMT established the Navigation Training Center (PLP) on 1 August 2019. This Training Center plays a role in the construction of modules and reference materials as well as studies related to sailing and translated through the organization of community empowerment programs through the organization of courses and knowledge transfer programs for school students and the community.
This UMT PLP also received attention from the Terengganu palace and His Majesty the Sultan of Terengganu and has defamed the royals to complete the UMT PLP inauguration ceremony.
PLP UMT recognizes the expertise and wisdom of the local community (local expert) and has appointed individuals with extensive experience in the science of navigation to share knowledge and expertise, especially related to navigation skills and the architecture of ship model carpentry. This effort is to complete the model of sailing sports led by UMT to continue to create excellence and further elevate sailing sports activities as a legacy from generation to generation.
The objective of the establishment of PLP is not only focused on involvement in sports events, but sailing activities are also a recognized competence skill and it can be used as a career field such as being a yacht captain or working in a marina.
Among the achievements throughout the establishment of this PLP, they managed to achieve success when the UMT Sailing Team won the bronze medal for the 16th Yisunsin Cup International Yacht Race in South Korea for the J70 category last November 2022.
In addition, UMT's PLP also succeeded in changing the skeptical perception of women's involvement in sailing and it was proven through the success of the UMT Ocean Girls team being crowned as the third overall winner of the sport-boat category in the organization of the Royal Langkawi International Regatta 2023 in January 2023.
The UMT PLP also supports the Terengganu State Sailing Association's efforts in finding sailing talent from among people with disabilities (OKU). Until now, a total of seven people with disabilities among the community in Kuala Terengganu have been actively involved in the special category sailing sports event, namely Handicape Sailing (HANSA). Cooperation and support from several agencies and the Malaysian Sailing Association make PLP UMT the only HANSA training center in Malaysia.
